“It’s more than just the end piece. It’s the inspiration and
creation along with the friendship, mentorship and being a life-
long learner.” (Barb Enos)
After retiring from teaching in 2013, Barb learned to design and
weave clothing under the mentorship of Oberlin College instructor
Betsy Bruce and gained experience using both four harness and
eight harness looms. She now has her own small home studio
and enjoys weaving scarves, shawls, lap blankets, tea towels and
more. She and her daughter also weave on her husband’s
grandmother’s Union 36 two harness loom from the 1940’s. Barb
is knowledgeable in the art of dyeing fiber both chemical dyes and
natural dyes under the mentorship of Karen Long. She hosts
yearly dyeing events at her home both chemical and natural
dyeing. Barb has participated in classes led by master
weaver/spinner Susan Conover from Ohio, nationally known and
published weavers Bobbi Irwin from Colorado, Natalie Drummond
who specializes in Deflective Double Weave and Jennifer Moore
from New Mexico who specializes in Double Weave, and more.
Barb loves sharing her skills with others during demonstrations
and individual lessons. Lorain County Spinners and Weavers
Guild (locoguild.com), has helped her make lasting friendships in
the weaving community and is great place to network. She
doesn’t have one particular niche – she loves it all!
Barb resides in Oberlin, Ohio (benos@oberlin.net)
